How to get a Library Card

Adult Residents of De Soto

Adult Resident Card

Adult residents (18 years of age or older) of the city of De Soto can apply in person at the library.

With an Adult Card, you can check out up to 25 items at a time and access our public computers, our downloadable books and magazines, and our research databases.  When applying, you must bring proof that you live/pay property taxes in De Soto when you pick up your card. A De Soto water bill is preferred.

Adults may provide only one piece of identification if it is one of the following valid government issues IDs with a De Soto address:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Current photo learner’s permit
  • Current non-driver’s identification

If the above documentation is not available, any 2 of the following forms of identification are acceptable, provided one item shows a photo and name and/or signature and the other item shows the applicant’s current address*^:

  • Current passport
  • Current college or university photo ID card
  • Current employee photo ID card
  • Current Armed Services ID card
  • Alien Registration photo ID card
  • Professional, vocational, or union photo ID
  • Medicare/Medicaid card
  • Missouri State motor vehicle registration
  • Missouri State motor vehicle insurance card
  • Current rent bill or lease agreement
  • Check or checkbook
  • Tax bill or receipt**
  • Statement from a shelter or rehabilitation center**
  • Bank statement**
  • Cable, phone, or utility bill**
  • Any piece of mail delivered by the US Post Office**

*Note: PO Boxes are not accepted as mailing addresses.  Proof of residence is required.

^Note: Electronic versions of bills, bank statements, etc., are acceptable (i.e. on a smartphone).

**Note: Any of these must be dated within the last 3 months, as indicated by the postmark or date of printed e-bill.

 


Minor Residents of De Soto

Minor Resident Card

With a Minor Card, you can check out up to 5 items at a time (some restrictions apply) and access our public computers, our downloadable books and magazines, and our research databases. Youth cards do not accrue Fines and Fees just like Adult Resident Cards.

What is required to get a Minor Card:

Ages 7-17:

Any youth under the age of eighteen must have a parent/legal guardian present to get a Minor Card. The parent/legal guardian must provide his or her own photo ID and address verification (just like applying for the Adult Resident Card), in addition to signing a parental consent form for the library card. If the parent/legal guardian already has a library card, then that card must be in good standing.

 


Non-Resident Card

Persons living outside De Soto city limits may register for a non-resident library card for a fee of $30.00 per year. Non-resident cards must be registered for in- person. This non-refundable fee must be paid in full at registration. Non-resident cardholders may borrow up to 25 items at a time and access our public computers, our downloadable books and magazines, and our research databases.


Library Card Ownership & Replacement

Replacement library cards are $1.00, payable upon issue of the replacement card. Photo identification is required for card replacement. Library cards may only be used by the individual who registered for the card and library membership may not be transferred to any other users.
